We recently fixed a sidewalk tripping hazard where the responsible party got sued and was held responsible for fixing it. We were called to the City of Boston to one of the funeral parlors in town. There is a walkway to the front door. If you have ever noticed a concrete walkway, there are lines in it. Multiple sections had sunken, creating a tripping hazard. Someone tripped, so he asked us to see what we...

Before you even begin pouring concrete in the winter, the first step is to find a qualified contractor. The key thing to discuss with the contractors you are consider are:
Insurance. Be sure they have insurance: liability insurance and workman’s compensation. The liability insurance means if he damages your property in anyway, there is an insurance policy that can compensate you rather than having to go after the contractor for the payment. Workman’s comp is...

We went to do a repointing job on a stone foundation in Arlington, MA. Stone foundations are not unusual in the town of Arlington since it has mostly older homes (many of which have been beautifully restored). We noticed that there was some sand and soil where the wall and floor met which tells us that there was quite a bit of erosion of the soil on the exterior of the home that was finding...

We ran into a customer from 5 years ago in Worcester the other day with a new situation. There was water leaking in around the water pipe leading into the house. The pipe was an old cast iron pipe that looked like it has spider webs around it. Upon a closer look, we found that it was roots. We went outside, and right above where the pipe entered the home was a huge bush. We...

We went out to do a garage floor crack this week in Waltham, MA because the owner was planning to sell their house. The during the home inspection, the inspector told the prospective buys that if the cracks are left unrepaired, the corners of the cracks will continue to crumble as cars drive over the area repeatedly. In the past, we have seen customers try to use hydraulic cement. This method does not last and...

Rich answered the phone at 7:45 PM at night and spent over 20 minutes on the phone answering all of my questions. Rich was extremely professional and informative.
Rich was unbelievable helpful even late at night. This is extremely rare and refreshing in today's world. I have not had any work done as of yet but will definitely be following up with Rich in the near future.

The first thing you need to think about when buying a sump pump for the basement is the type of sump pump you need. There are basically two kinds. The first is called a pedestal sump pump which goes into the sump pump basin or the hole that you put into a hole that is put into the basement. Some of it is above the hole, therefore it can be tipped, it can be tied...

This is a common problem that we see quite often. People always tell us that their basement floors are dusty, even though they sweep them all the time. There is actually an industry term for this: concrete dusting, the floor is dusting. The top layer of concrete is soft, and you can often scrape it with your fingernail.
There are three main causes of concrete dusting:
The first is called Bleeding. Concrete has water in...

The other day we got a call from a contractor that we have done business with in the past. One of his sub-contractors put the sewer pipe through the concrete wall in the wrong place. So he was left with a 4" sewer pipe sticking through his concrete wall that had about 8' outside also. He has to eventually put the pipe in the right place, which left him with an unused pipe sticking out...
