Things you can do to protect your basement from moisture:
Add a dehumidifier
If there is water coming up from below, put a sump pump in.
I found a water detector. It will actually call or text your cell phone if it detects water. This is a new product that I found that has quite a bit of merit. Not only will it detect water, but it will also tell you if the temperature of...

As spring showers increase the amount of ground water around the house homeowner are more likely to spot leaks in the basement. As many of them do, they decide to fix them themselves with products from Lowes and Home Depot. When they get there, they grab the guy in the aisle and ask his advice. He will suggest caulk or cement or Flex Seal and they give it the Ol’ College Try. After failing multiple...

We have had problems in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut and New Hampshire with the snow that we have had. The snow on the ground is going to melt, but so is the snow on our roofs. We want to keep that out of the basement.
First, go into the basement and see if there are any water stains because places that leaked before will leak again. We can get that fixed for you.
But what...

Lally columns are the support systems that are underneath the floors that hold the floor up and keep them even and balanced. We see all kinds of poorly designed lally columns all over Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and New Hampshire that home inspectors don’t like. There are five that are common.

Well, you can think what you want but it happens a lot of the times when someone finished the basement. We get calls from all over where people finish the basement and then months later they have water coming from behind the sheet rock. In fact, some say they knew...

Is your stone foundation leaking or is it a sewer pipe? Here is an interesting case study, but the good thing was there was no smell involved. We got a call from a panicked real estate agent who was trying to help a client. They were trying to close the next day and they had water coming through what she thought was the stone foundation. I asked her to take a picture of it, and...

We posted a blog a few weeks ago with an amazing video that a customer posted of water literally squirting from a foundation wall crack.
We got a call from Sharon, MA the other day when we were getting that heavy rain. It was a block foundation where water was squirting out at the seams where some blocks meet in a block foundation. They were concerned, and rightfully so, that the water was going to...

Whenever we get a call about a basement water problem, there is a little bit of sleuthing that goes inot figure out where the water is coming from. That is where our knowledge comes from.
I have been getting quite a few calls in Easter Massachusetts and Southern New Hampshire recently where property managers and home owners are calling me about foundation leaks. And, the first thing is ask: “is there a sidewalk or driveway...

This is often one of the first questions we get. We can fix foundation cracks from the inside or outside. Let’s talk about outside cracks first. First you have to understand that cracks, when they crack in foundation they go through the foundation so you have it on the inside and outside about 98% of the time. So you can fix cracks from the outside, but it is more time-consuming and there are some limitations....
