Most basement water problems are a result of rain. But you can get water puddles in the basement or garage corners even without rain. In the summer A1 Foundation Crack Repair has been getting that call for years. In the basement and garage you get condensation because the surface is cooler than the air. The foundation surface is cooler than the air outside. The condensation creates water build-up. Water can form as dampness or puddling.
Another thing we have seen is condensation from water pipes overhead. The pipes have cold water in them and when it is hot, they condense and drip creating puddles.
This can cause problems through mold and mildew growth from the moisture. Mold and mildew can grow rapidly which can cause health issues, rot wood and rot material; it can become a serious issue.
To solve it, you can put in a nice dehumidification system which sucks the moisture out of the air. This can take care of humidity, moisture and puddling. But there is human error involved. Many people forget to dump the water that collects in the tub. The way to address this is to connect it to a sump pump so that it automatically drains to the outside. Or, if you don't have a sump pump, raise the dehumidifier so it can drain into a sink or other drain in the basement. If not, you can buy a pump that can remove the water from the dehumidifier basin.
